Simpson.<\/p>\n<p>We have reported previously (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/animallawdevelopments\/2018\/09\/07\/seafood-restaurant-takes-on-peta\/\">here<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/animallawdevelopments\/2019\/01\/09\/petas-attack-on-seafood-restaurant-backfires\/\"> here<\/a>) on an ongoing back and forth between animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Jimmy&#8217;s Famous Seafood, a seafood restaurant in Baltimore, Maryland.\u00a0 PETA started it with a billboard advertisement in which a Maryland crab proclaimed &#8220;I&#8217;m ME, not MEAT.\u00a0 See the individual.\u00a0 Go Vegan.&#8221;\u00a0 Jimmy&#8217;s responded with its own billboard asserting:\u00a0 &#8220;SteaMEed crabs.\u00a0 Here to stay.\u00a0 Get Famous.&#8221;\u00a0 Jimmy&#8217;s also trolled PETA on Twitter with humorous effect with hashtags like &#8220;#SteamThemAll.&#8221;\u00a0 This tactic reportedly had the effect of boosting Jimmy&#8217;s sales.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The fun continued recently with a post by Jimmy&#8217;s on social media announcing the creation of a new beverage that apparently goes very well with steamed Maryland crabs.\u00a0\u00a0The new concoction, called &#8220;PETA Tears&#8221; is an American blonde ale.\u00a0 As Jimmy&#8217;s tweeted:\u00a0 &#8220;Dear @peta, Your tears are delicious &#8211; and we&#8217;re sharing them with the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ingrid Newkirk, President of PETA, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/07\/25\/baltimore-seafood-restaurant-launches-peta-tears-beer-after-bitter-billboard-battle\/\">reportedly<\/a> was not fazed, calling the new beer a &#8220;silly bid for relevancy.&#8221;\u00a0 When it comes to identifying &#8220;silly bids for relevancy,&#8221; PETA should know, given its own publicity-grabbing antics.\u00a0 In any event, Jimmy&#8217;s apparently intends to donate one dollar for every beer it sells to <a href=\"https:\/\/showyoursoftside.org\/\">Show Your Soft Side<\/a>, which describes itself as a &#8220;public service campaign that was created to change the mindset of young people who all-too-often view the maiming and torturing of defenseless cats and dogs as a sign of &#8216;toughness&#8217; or &#8216;manhood.'&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 The organization&#8217;s motto is &#8220;only a punk would hurt a cat or dog.&#8221;\u00a0 Thus, it appears that &#8220;PETA Tears&#8221; are being shed for a good cause.\u00a0 Given the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/animallawdevelopments\/2019\/02\/08\/peta-animal-shelter-continues-to-show-high-rate-of-euthanization\/\">high euthanization<\/a> rate in PETA&#8217;s Norfolk, Virginia, animal &#8220;shelter,&#8221;\u00a0 Jimmy&#8217;s appears to occupy higher ground when it comes to the actual welfare of dogs and cats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by John M.
