Tremaine Wright\u00a0delivered her first public speech\u00a0since being\u00a0appointed Chair of the\u00a0New York State Cannabis Control Board\u00a0at the CWCBExpo (Cannabis World Congress & Business Exposition)\u00a0at the Javits Center on November 4.\u00a0 Wright\u00a0leads the five-member\u00a0board charged with approving a\u00a0regulatory framework for New York’s cannabis industry and will oversee licensing of cannabis businesses.\u00a0\u00a0In her remarks before 400 people at the business-to-business cannabis industry\u00a0trade show, Wright reiterated\u00a0that New York will\u00a0support\u00a0social equity licenses for people from communities historically affected by the War on Drugs.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re about to create the most equitable cannabis program in the country,\u201d she said.\u00a0 Wright\u00a0also said that New York will prevent social equity licenses from\u00a0being sold to large companies by requiring that they be sold to other social equity licensees.\u00a0\u00a0However, the regulations are currently being written and there are few details about how the state will help social equity applicants raise capital to start cannabis businesses.\u00a0 Wright also said that all license applicants\u00a0will be required to share their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance)\u00a0frameworks to operate in the state.\u00a0 The Board has a goal of issuing licenses within 18 months.\u00a0 Members of New York’s Office of Cannabis Management were also in attendance at the Expo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
