However, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration\u2019s (FDA) press release issued that same day put a hold on the jubilation, stating that FDA considered any and all cannabis-containing or cannabis-derived products as drug products and not food or dietary supplements, regardless of whether the CBD was hemp-derived.<\/p>\n<p>On April 2, 2019, departing FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb issued a\u00a0<a title=\"Statement from FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D., on new steps to advance agency\u2019s continued evaluation of potential regulatory pathways for cannabis-containing and cannabis-derived products\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/NewsEvents\/Newsroom\/PressAnnouncements\/ucm635048.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>\u00a0about FDA\u2019s next steps to advance a regulatory pathway for cannabis-containing and cannabis-derived products. At the same time FDA updated its cannabis-containing products and cannabis-derived products\u00a0<a title=\"FDA Regulation of Cannabis and Cannabis-Derived Products: Questions and Answers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/NewsEvents\/PublicHealthFocus\/ucm421168.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Q&amp;A<\/a>.
