The new laws were passed by the New York City Council on April 18, 2019, and became law on May 20, 2019. These new ordinances, known as Local Laws\u00a0<a title=\"Local Law 92 of 2019\" href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/assets\/buildings\/local_laws\/ll92of2019.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">92<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Local Law 94 of 2019\" href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/assets\/buildings\/local_laws\/ll94of2019.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">94<\/a>\u00a0of 2019, passed as part of a broad package of laws known as the New York City Climate Mobilization Act, whose goal is reduction of building carbon emissions.
