{"id":1015,"date":"2025-09-08T07:48:48","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T11:48:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/?p=1015"},"modified":"2025-09-08T07:48:53","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T11:48:53","slug":"jersey-investigation-into-suspected-russian-sanctions-offences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/2025\/09\/08\/jersey-investigation-into-suspected-russian-sanctions-offences\/","title":{"rendered":"Jersey &#8211; investigation into suspected Russian sanctions offences"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reporting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/sep\/07\/roman-abramovich-under-investigation-jersey-corruption-money-laundering-claims\">by the Guardian<\/a> newspaper has flagged an ongoing sanctions investigation in Jersey that this blog had previously missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investigation has become public as a result of <a href=\"https:\/\/bstger.weblaw.ch\/pdf\/20250507_RR_2024_66.pdf\">a Swiss judgment<\/a> relating to a mutual legal assistance request for documents made to Switzerland by the Jersey authorities. The court dismissed a challenge to the provision of the documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As well as investigating allegations of corruption going back to the 1990s the Jersey authorities are said in the judgment to be investigating:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">i) the continued use of the funds and assets of two Jersey companies (named only as J Ltd and K Ltd) after the the person who is alleged to indirectly control the companies was placed on Jersey&#8217;s Russian sanctions list;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ii) that companies continued to provide the designated person with financial services after his designation; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">iii) an attempt that was made to transfer the assets of J Ltd after the person&#8217;s designation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The judgment itself does not name the designated person, but press reporting has identified the person as Roman Abramovich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Guardian also notes that lawyers for Mr Abramovich denied the allegations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reporting by the Guardian newspaper has flagged an ongoing sanctions investigation in Jersey that this blog had previously missed.
