{"id":1202,"date":"2026-04-13T09:57:02","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T13:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/?p=1202"},"modified":"2026-04-14T05:44:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T09:44:07","slug":"france-cement-maker-lafarge-and-eight-executives-convicted-of-sanctions-and-terrorist-financing-breaches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/2026\/04\/13\/france-cement-maker-lafarge-and-eight-executives-convicted-of-sanctions-and-terrorist-financing-breaches\/","title":{"rendered":"France &#8211; cement maker Lafarge and eight executives convicted of sanctions and terrorist financing breaches"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/2025\/12\/23\/france-lafarge-sanctions-trial-ends-with-verdict-due-in-april-2026\/\">our earlier posts<\/a>, a court in Paris <a href=\"https:\/\/globalinvestigationsreview.com\/just-sanctions\/article\/lafarge-former-executives-convicted-in-france-terror-financing?utm_source=Lafarge%252C%2Bformer%2Bexecutives%2Bconvicted%2Bin%2BFrance%2Bfor%2Bterror%2Bfinancing&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=GIR%2BAlerts\">had today handed down<\/a> judgment in the long-running Lafarge prosecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.franceinfo.fr\/faits-divers\/terrorisme\/le-cimentier-francais-lafarge-et-huit-anciens-responsables-reconnus-coupables-de-financement-de-terrorisme-en-syrie_7934567.html\">company has been convicted of breaches<\/a> of the EU&#8217;s Syrian sanctions as well as terrorist financing and has been fined \u20ac1.125m as well as a separate fine of \u20ac4.57m for breach of sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com.tr\/en\/world\/french-cement-company-lafarge-found-guilty-of-financing-terrorism-in-syria\/3904010\">the executives also being prosecuted<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Bruno Pescheux (former director of the Syrian cement factory) received a 5-year jail term and was fined \u20ac225,000;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Bruno Lafont (former Lafarge CEO) was sentenced to 6 years in jail and fined \u20ac225,000;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Christian Herrault (former deputy Managing Director) was sentenced to five years in jail and fined \u20ac225,000;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Frederic Jolibois (successor to Pescheux) was sentenced to three years in jail, two of which were suspended, and fined \u20ac80,000;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Jacob Waerness was sentenced to 18 months in jail and fined \u20ac20,000 and a ban from entering France;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Ahmad Al Jaloudi was sentenced to 2 years in jail and fined \u20ac20,000 and a ban from entering France;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Amro Taleb, a Syrian intermediary, was sentenced to 3 years in jail and fined and fined \u20ac60,000 and a ban from entering France;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Firas Tlass, tried in absentia, was convicted and sentenced to seven years in jail with a \u20ac225,000 fine and a ban from entering France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It appears that a decision on the confiscation of the proceeds of crime in this case is awaited.
