{"id":625,"date":"2024-06-04T11:50:37","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T15:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/?p=625"},"modified":"2024-06-04T11:50:37","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T15:50:37","slug":"netherlands-an-end-to-exemptions-allowing-port-entry-for-russian-flagged-vessels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/2024\/06\/04\/netherlands-an-end-to-exemptions-allowing-port-entry-for-russian-flagged-vessels\/","title":{"rendered":"Netherlands &#8211; an end to exemptions allowing port entry for Russian-flagged vessels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Dutch Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management has announced in a <a href=\"\/Users\/MHandley\/Downloads\/Beslisnota%20bij%20Kamerbrief%20Besluit%20rond%20ontheffing%20Russische%20gevlagde%20schepen.pdf\">written statement to parliament<\/a>, that the Dutch government will no longer grant exemptions to the EU&#8217;s prohibition on Russian-flagged vessels, or vessels registered with the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping from using Dutch ports.<\/p>\n<p>The Dutch had been granting permission for Russian fishing vessels to use Dutch ports based on the &#8220;food products&#8221; exemption. This practice will now stop with the Minister stating: &#8220;Future requests for an exemption for Russian flagged ships will also be assessed negatively&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Press reports in the Netherland had linked Russian fishing vessels to espionage, but the main reasons given in the statement include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;increasing geopolitical tensions&#8221;;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;upcoming tightening of European sanctions policy&#8221;; and<\/li>\n<li>that the issue &#8220;had also been discussed in the debates about the European summit by a number of factions and attention was drawn to effective implementation of the sanctions by the Netherlands&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Dutch Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management has announced in a written statement to parliament, that the Dutch government will no longer grant exemptions to the EU&#8217;s prohibition on Russian-flagged vessels, or vessels registered with the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping from using Dutch ports.
