{"id":804,"date":"2024-12-09T04:08:35","date_gmt":"2024-12-09T08:08:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/?p=804"},"modified":"2024-12-09T04:08:36","modified_gmt":"2024-12-09T08:08:36","slug":"latvia-2-year-jail-sentence-for-breaching-designated-persons-asset-freeze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/2024\/12\/09\/latvia-2-year-jail-sentence-for-breaching-designated-persons-asset-freeze\/","title":{"rendered":"Latvia &#8211; 2-year jail sentence for breaching designated person&#8217;s asset freeze"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It is being reported that the Kurzeme District Court has sentenced the Latvian citizen Valentins Rozencovs, to 2 years in jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sentence was that sought by the prosecution, although the case is subject to appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rozencovs was the editor-in-chief of Sputnik Latvija which is the Latvian branch of Sputnik which operates under the umbrella of a Russian state-owned media company Rossiya Segodnya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Director General of Rossiya Segodnya is a designated person (Dmitry Kiselyov), and the prosecution was based on the premise that the provision of services by Valentins Rozencovs was making economic resources available to a designated person, and that Sputnik Latvija was &#8220;owned or controlled&#8221; by Kiselyov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the latest in a series of prosecutions relating to Rossiya Segodnya &#8211; see our earlier posts, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/2024\/11\/25\/latvia-details-of-the-10-russian-belarusian-sanctions-convictions-from-2022-and-2023\/\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/2023\/01\/05\/latvia-man-arrested-on-suspicion-of-providing-economic-resources-to-designated-person\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is being reported that the Kurzeme District Court has sentenced the Latvian citizen Valentins Rozencovs, to 2 years in jail.
