{"id":891,"date":"2025-04-14T06:06:56","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T10:06:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/?p=891"},"modified":"2025-04-14T06:06:58","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T10:06:58","slug":"united-kingdom-sentencing-for-first-russian-sanctions-convictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/2025\/04\/14\/united-kingdom-sentencing-for-first-russian-sanctions-convictions\/","title":{"rendered":"United Kingdom &#8211; sentencing for first Russian sanctions convictions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Further to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.duanemorris.com\/europeansanctionsenforcement\/2025\/04\/10\/united-kingdom-first-criminal-convictions-under-the-uks-russian-sanctions\/\">last week&#8217;s post<\/a>, sentencing has now been completed against Dmitrii Ovsiannikov and Alexei Owsjanikow, who were both convicted of breaches of the UK&#8217;s sanctions regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As per a press release from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cps.gov.uk\/cps\/news\/sentencing-first-ever-uk-prosecution-russian-sanction-breaches\">Crown Prosecution Service<\/a>, Ovsiannikov was convicted of 8 counts of breaking the asset freeze imposed upon him as a designated person, and has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for each count with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cx25qd4qq1qo\">each sentence to be served concurrently<\/a>. He was also convicted of two charges of money laundering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The charges relate to the purchase of a car, the payment of private school fees, deposits into bank accounts and insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alexei Owsjanikow was convicted of 2 of the charges against him, relating to the payment of school fees on behalf of his brother-in-law, and was given a suspended 15 month prison sentence and made subject of a curfew order.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Further to last week&#8217;s post, sentencing has now been completed against Dmitrii Ovsiannikov and Alexei Owsjanikow, who were both convicted of breaches of the UK&#8217;s sanctions regime.
