Clark<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">On March 28 MedStar Health, \u00a0the largest health system in the Washington, D.C. area, shut down its computer systems, including its electronic health records, on account of an apparent \u201cransom\u201d attack in which the hackers infected its system with a virus.\u00a0 From \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/virus-infects-medstar-health-systems-computers-hospital-officials-say\/2016\/03\/28\/480f7d66-f515-11e5-a3ce-f06b5ba21f33_story.html\" target=\"_blank\">media reports<\/a>, it appears that the hackers demanded an unknown sum to stop the malware attack. The FBI is already involved.\u00a0This incident, following February\u2019s successful <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/technology\/la-me-ln-hollywood-hospital-bitcoin-20160217-story.html\" target=\"_blank\">ransom attack<\/a> on Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, \u00a0reinforces the need for strong data security protection as well, as an incident response plan that includes law enforcement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Duane Morris partner Lisa W.
