Maryland to Permit Indoor Dining, Reopen Casinos and Lift Additional Restrictions on Nonessential Businesses, Subject to Local Orders

On June 10, 2020, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced that the next round of phased reopenings would begin on June 12, 2020, with another round to follow on June 19, 2020, all subject to local orders. These reopenings continue the state’s implementation of stage two of its three-stage recovery plan.

Maryland Enters Stage Two of Reopening Plan, Lifting Restrictions for Nonessential Businesses, Subject to Local Orders

On June 3, 2020, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced that effective Friday, June 5, 2020, at 5:00 p.m., the state would begin stage two of the its three-stage recovery plan. Maryland began stage one three weeks ago, when Governor Hogan lifted the stay-at-home order that had been in place since March 30, 2020.

Maryland Governor Announces State Will Complete Stage One of Reopening Plan, Subject to Local Orders

On May 27, 2020, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced that effective May 29, 2020, at 5:00 p.m., the state would move forward with the completion of stage one of its three-stage recovery plan. Maryland began stage one of the recovery plan two weeks ago, when Governor Hogan lifted the stay-at-home order that had been in place since March 30, 2020, and permitted certain businesses to reopen with limitations.

Many Maryland Counties and Cities to Retain Restrictions Despite Governor Lifting the Stay-at-Home Order

When Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced that he would lift the statewide stay-at-home order and launch the state’s three-stage recovery plan at 5:00 p.m. on May 15, 2020, he expressly gave local governments the authority to take a more restrictive approach. Many Maryland counties have since announced that they will retain some or all of the statewide restrictions, and several will remain under local stay-at-home orders.
