In another attempt to encourage Pennsylvanians to adhere to public health recommendations, on December 4, 2020, the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) adopted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recent recommendations to reduce the quarantine period for asymptomatic people exposed to COVID-19. Previously, the CDC and DOH generally recommended that asymptomatic individuals quarantine for 14 days after the date of last exposure.

With Thanksgiving upon us, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Secretary of Health Rachel Levine announced additional mitigation orders to help stop the spread of COVID-19 during the holiday season. The new orders include targeted business restrictions and a new enforcement plan that includes liability protection for businesses enforcing the Secretary of Health’s strengthened mask-wearing order. These latest orders come on the heels of Pennsylvania’s expanded travel restrictions and required use of face coverings.

With COVID-19 cases increasing across the country and the holiday travel season approaching, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced two orders on November 17, 2020, requiring new travel restrictions and expanding the required use of face coverings. On November 16, 2020, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney also announced new mandatory guidelines for individuals and businesses that are arguably some of the most restrictive in the nation, harkening back to the city’s stay-at-home order from the spring.

According to the Philadelphia Business Journal, a bill aiming to alleviate the financial impact that COVID-19 has been having on independent live music venues has been introduced in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
HB2894, dubbed the Pennsylvania “Save Our Stages” Act, looks to allocate $200 million of Cares Act funding for grants to be made available to independent venue operators, theaters and promoters that have had business interrupted by the pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated every legal and business trend, from Zoom meetings to outdoor dining. Remote notarization is no different, and sometimes lawmakers act without much fanfare. On October 29, 2020, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf signed into law House Bill 2370, which permits remote notarizations of certain documents in Pennsylvania. The law takes immediate effect.
