The German Ministry of Economy has launched an investigation into whether engineering company Bosch has made unlawful exports to Russian in breach of EU sanctions.
France – seizure of vessel alleged to be owned by sanctioned Russian bank
The French authorities have seized the cargo ship, Baltic Leader, claimed to be owned by sanctioned Russian bank Promsvyazbank.
The vessel was headed to Russian but seized in the channel.
Germany – five being investigated in relation to export of gas turbines to Crimea
It is being reported today that the Hamburg Public Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating five individuals in relation to the export from Germany to Crimea of gas turbines manufactured by Siemens.
The broader investigation into the export of these turbines has been ongoing since 2018. See our earlier post.
Four of the individuals being investigated are German nationals, three of whom worked for Siemens in Russia, and the fifth is a Swiss national.
Denmark – sentences and fines for breach of Syrian sanctions
Two Danish companies have been convicted of exporting 177,000 tonnes of jet fuel to Syria in breach of the EU’s sanctions.
In total some 33 transactions took place between 2015 and 2017, with the exports routed through Russian companies bound for Syria.
The company Dan-Bunkering was fined DKK 30 million ($4.6m), with a further DKK 15 million of unlawful profits confiscated.
The parent company Bunker Holding was fined DKK 4 million.
The Dan Bunkering CEO was also convicted and given a four-month custodial sentence , suspended pending a one year probation period.
Germany – arrest and raids over nuclear equipment exports to Iran
It has been reported today that the German authorities have conducted raids on 11 premises across Hamburg, Schleswig Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia, and that one individual (named only as Alexander J) has been arrested on suspicion of the unlawful export of machinery and equipment to Iran in breach of the EU’s sanctions.
The products were alleged to have been destined for Iran’s nuclear and missile programs and to have been valued at over €1.1 million.

Denmark – authorities investigating possible breaches with pump exports to Russia
It has been reported today in the German press that the Danish authorities are investigating allegations that the Danish company Grundfos may have exported pump equipment and machinery for use in the Crimea in breach of the EU’s sanctions.
Denmark – charges for breach of Syrian sanctions
Denmark’s financial crimes unit on Wednesday announced charges against a Danish company suspected of violating EU sanctions on Syria by delivering large quantities of fuel to Russian warplanes there.
The 33 transactions, involving 172,000 tonnes of kerosene, carried out between 2015 and 2017, amounted to 647 million kroner (87 million euros, $102 million), according to the Danish State Prosecutor.
Danish media has reported the company as Dan-Bunkering. A holding company and the director of one of the companies involved are also being prosecuted.
Netherlands – €4.6m in gross profits confiscated from Iran exports
Further to our earlier post, following the successful prosecution of two companies for exports to Iran in breach of sanctions, the Dutch authorities have secured confiscation orders against the two companies for the gross profits obtained from the unlawful exports.
The confiscations were of €600,000 and €4 million respectively.
Netherlands – two companies and three individuals convicted of Iran exports
The Dutch District Court in Limburg has convicted two companies and three individuals of unlicensed exports of gas turbine machinery to Iran.
The companies were Euroturbine BV, and its Bahraini subsidiary, and they were fined €500,000 and €350,000 respectively.
The exports were routed via indirect channels to and mask the destination.
The individuals were respectively sentenced to 12 months in jail, of which 11 months were suspended and 240 hours of community service; 8 months in jail, of which 7 months were suspended and a community service of 200 hours. The third individual , a company employee, was sentenced to 180 hours of community service.
A fourth individual had earlier pled guilty and been sentenced to 120 hours of community service.
Netherlands – fine for airline increased to €60,000 on appeal
Further to our earlier post relating to a fine imposed on the Dutch airline KLM, after an appeal by the Dutch prosecutors the fine has been raised to €60,000 from 40,000 with half suspended for 2 years.
