A Spanish national, Alejandro Cao de Benos, has been arrested on an US arrest warrant on suspicion of breaching sanctions against North Korea.
It is alleged that he was providing cryptocurrency advice to North Korea to assist with circumventing US sanctions.
It has been reported today that the Spanish authorities have arrested two individuals, a Russian national and a Ukrainian national, on suspicion of exporting military goods to Russia in breach of EU sanctions.
The investigation was started in 2021 nad has involved a number of raids. The goods in question were exported through third countries but destined for the Russian aeronautical sector.
The Spanish port authorities have today announced that they have denied port access to a tanker – the Magellan – for allegedly carrying diesel of Russian origin.
The port authorities claim that the vessel had taken on its cargo from another vessel that had, until recently, been Russian flagged.
The Spanish Guardia Civil has today arrested a British national in response to an extradition request by the US authorities.
The man, Richard Masters, is alleged to have assisted in the contravention of sanctions as part of the management and operation of the yacht the M/Y Tango on behalf of sanctioned Russian Viktor Vekselberg.
The yacht has also been seized.
The Spanish maritime authorities have refused port access to the tanker Black Star alleging that it took on board Russian cargo from the Russian-flagged vessel Andrey Pervozvanniy, in a ship-to-ship transfer near Malta.
